Parent Involvement

The culture of the Williamstown Elementary School encourages parents to become partners in their children's education and in the development of innovative programs at the school. Parents volunteer in many capacities at the school. For example, five parents serve on the School Governance Council, a group which helps prioritize the work of the school. Parents also volunteer in classrooms to work with the school staff to provide instruction.

Many special programs at the school have been initiated and facilitated by parents. Words are Wonderful, a week-long community event to celebrate literacy, is organized by parents. Adventures in Learning, a five week program of after school enrichment courses, was initiated by parents and continues to include many parents in the implementation of the program. Whenever one enters the Williamstown Elementary School, parents are extremely evident and are a major factor in the programming and implementation of the school's programs.
